The first settlement was occupied by the Ancient Britons around the same time as the Roman occupation of Britain in the 1st to the 5th century AD, This period was followed by the Anglo Saxon invasion in the 7th century AD, and then by the Vikings in 1056.
It was much later that Stratford became historically famous boasting to be the birth place of (The Bard) William Shakespear whose birthplace is open to the public now as a museum. The Town is also famous for its Tudor period buildings that stand as testament to the builders and architects of the time.
